Thai Enquirer understands that the Ministry of Interior and the Thai government will offer foreign workers and tourists trapped in Thailand a grace period as the coronavirus outbreak has forced the country to shut down its borders.
According to documents seen by Thai Enquirer, tourists and workers who have arrived on a Visa-on-Arrival scheme have their stay automatically extended until the end of April.
Foreigners who have not reported their whereabouts or their location will also have until the end of April to do so.
Once the situation improves, the Ministry of Interior will make more announcements which must be followed by all foreign aliens.
Foreign and migrant workers holding cross border permits will be allowed to stay indefinitely until borders are re-opened. Once open, those who have overstayed will have seven days to leave the country.
Thai resident permit holders stuck overseas will be given leeway on their period of return.
According to sources within foreign embassies, and inside the Ministry of Interior, the document awaits formal signings but that is understood to be a formality.
