Wednesday marks the first day the Government Savings Bank (GSB) is allowing people from the informal sector to register on their website for cheap credit.
The loans can be between 10,000 baht with 0.01 per cent interest rates for 24 months with no interest for the first 6 months and a 50,000 baht loan with the same interest scheme.
However, after the website was opened for registration, it crashed.
The GSB stated that the crash was due to heavy internet traffic as 4 million people registered simultaneously at 11.50am. It was operational again half an hour later.
The GSB then opened an additional website for people to register and urged that they should gradually do so or else there would be another website crash.
