The Court of Justice said on Friday that more than 18,000 individuals have been arrested for the violation of the State of Emergency (SOE) between April 3-23.
The SOE introduced a curfew between 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. that came into effect on April 10 to curtail the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. Violators of these orders could face up to two years in jail or a fine of 40,000 baht or both.
Of the 18,203 cases of SOE violation, 17,135 are Thais and 1,068 are foreigners. Courts have accepted 15,961 cases and they have ruled on more than 14,984 cases.
Of that number, an additional 258 cases (241 Thais and 17 foreigners) were found to have violated the Communicable Diseases Act.
Bangkok had the most number of curfew violations with 1,261 cases followed by neighboring Pathum Thani with 873 cases and the tourist friendly Chonburi with 766 cases.
