The Move Forward party is ready to take the lead among opposition party against the ruling government as other opposition partners fall to infighting, multiple sources said on Thursday.
Despite mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic by the government and a leadership crisis in the ruling party, news headlines over the last week have focused on the problems inside the Pheu Thai Party.
Former Thai Rak Thai and People’s Power Party stalwart Chaturon Chaisang was rumoured to be splintering from the Pheu Thai Party and starting a new party along with some old allies.
The party is reportedly going to be “free of all influence” and a separation of the more liberal elements of Pheu Thai from Thaksin Shinawatra’s leadership.
However, the timing of the splinter has been bad for the united image of the opposition which has failed to turn the spotlight back to the ruling coalition.
Members of Move Forward told Thai Enquirer on Thursday that they were impatient with Pheu Thai’s leadership of the opposition and would ‘take the lead’ in parliamentary hearings happening this week.
“The internal problems of other parties is not our concern. Right now we’re ready to take the lead and push the government on issues that are important to the people,” said a Move Forward MP who asked not to be named. “We want to pressure the government to answer questions about their spending and the business dealings of some MPs.”
The Move Forward Party have said that they will seek the impeachment of Palang Pracharat MP Thamanat Prompao over his arrest and improvement in Australia for drug dealing.
“We do not think he is fit for office.”
A separate Move Forward MP said that the party will look to question the government over its coronavirus stimulus funds and aid packages which have seen many Thais left behind due to mismanagement.
