The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) said on Monday that most of the 400 billion baht budget to stimulate the economy will be used for job creation and skill development.
They also said the disbursement for the projects, mostly job creation, will begin in July.
The cabinet and the Senate approved an emergency loan in May worth 1 trillion baht to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the economy.
Of that, 600 billion baht will be used for relief measures, such as the 5,000 baht cash handout and soft loans for businesses, and another 400 billion baht will be used to support economic recovery.
The NESDC said in May that 8.4 million people are at risk of losing their job because of the outbreak. The council is one of the agencies in charge of scrutinizing the disbursement of the 400 billion baht budget.
The NESDC is now compiling government agency project proposals to be presented to the cabinet on July 7.
Most of the projects so far are from the Ministry of Labour and the Department of Skill Development.
They mainly involve small local projects for people who lost their jobs and projects for new graduates with the aim to create jobs for 220,000 people and reskilling 600,000 people.
The NESDC said earlier that about 520,000 new graduates will have a hard time looking for jobs in 2020.
