A group of former Pheu Thai aligned MPs and society leaders will announce a new political action group called Care on June 17
Led by Phumtham Wechayachai, a veteran politician and an adviser to the leader of the Pheu Thai Party, the Care Group will work to implement policy and pressure politicians into helping those in need.
The June 17 launch will include speakers such as chairman of Patra Securities Banyong Pongpanich, architect Duangrit Bunnag, director of Patra Securities Supavud Saicheua, and former deputy prime minister Surapong Seubwonglee.
Surapong was the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs under Yingluck Shinawatra’s administration.
Pongsak Ruktapongpisal, Prommin Lertsuridej and Surapong Suebwonglee, all of whom were executives of the Thai Rak Thai Party, have all been linked with Care as well.
Phumtham said on Thursday that the group wanted to share its thoughts to the public; however, only 200 participants will be allowed into the venue because of social distancing.
When asked if Care will become a political party, he said it is too soon to say.
As of right now, the group has no plans to become one.
Phumtham said the group felt that the current government’s efforts to listen to the grievances of its people were minimal at best.
The government has been ineffective in fixing economic and social problems.
The establishment of Care Group along with the splinter of longtime Pheu Thai stalwart Chaturon Chaisaeng will put pressure on the Pheu Thai party with rumors of key defections swirling around party insiders.
Sudarat and Move Forward Party
On the same day as Phumtham’s announcement, Move Forward Party‘s Bangkok district MPs allegedly met with Pheu Thai’s party strategist Sudarat Keyuraphan without informing their party’s leadership, according to local reports.
This has caused great displeasure among the Move Forward leadership as they were not informed of the meeting.
Sources within Move Forward say that Sudarat is looking to lure Move Forward’s Bangkok MPs to join her party.
However, Move Forward spokesperson MP Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat, who is one of the seven Bangkok district MPs, said on Thursday that he never met with Sudarat.
