The cabinet has on Tuesday approved a four-day holiday in July to promote domestic tourism.
The four-day holiday will be from July 4-7, said culture minister Ittipol Khunpluem after the cabinet meeting.
The cabinet, which usually meets on Tuesday, will also be moved from July 28 to July 29 and from July 7 to July 8 instead.
Ittipol said the extra holiday in July has nothing to do with the suspended Songkran holidays.
He added that the suspended three-day Thai New Year celebration will be considered after the disbursement of the 400 billion baht stimulus budget, which is expected to begin in July.
Other major approvals
- Extra budget worth 2 billion baht for the National Housing Authority as the agency has been helping low-income homeowners who have been affected by the outbreak. The measures that have been introduced by the authority between April and June were the suspension of rent and debt payment of hire purchase loans.
- The Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearances bill. The bill was pushed by the now-dissolved Future Forward Party. The bill will enter parliament for its approval.
- Thailand’s 3.3 billion baht contribution to the United Nations COVID-19 Response and Recovery Multi-Partner Trust Fund that will come from the 2020 fiscal budget.
