A viral hashtag with nearly 400,000 posts in the last 24 hours has Thai netizens imagining a country where the politics was not dominated by corruption and military interference.
Online web users used the hashtag to fantasize about a Thailand where political conflict was not a part of daily life.
Thailand has had two military coups in the last two decades. Conflicts between conservative and liberal elements of Thai society have spilled into the streets with military crackdowns, terrorist attacks and political instability dotting Thailand’s recent political past.
Two decades of chaos and the current coronavirus pandemic have taken their toll upon the economy as Thailand has become of the slowest growing economies in Southeast Asia, overly-reliant on its tourism sector.
The hashtag has prompted some thoughtful and colorful responses as a result.
