A teacher-in-training is drawing a string of criticism online after she posted a video on the popular platform, TikTok, of her punishing high school students by making them lift tables over their heads while doing squats.
The video, which has now been removed by TikTok, was shared on Twitter by user @ayyqs and has garnered over 88,000 retweets.
“You are just a student training to teach but have such audacity to punish the kids this way,” the user wrote along with the video. “And you have proudly uploaded this on social media. It’s not hard for the parents to sue; all the evidence is there. Careful you might not graduate.”
Comments under the thread seem to be in consensus, agreeing that this type of punishment is unproductive, thoughtless and does nothing to educate the students but only to bully them.
After receiving the negative feedback, the teacher-in-training, identified as Oraya Boonto, uploaded a clip to clarify that the punishment was “nothing,” and that some students “didn’t even get up to do it.”
There were also screenshots shared of her commenting on how students are “untouchable” at this point after receiving the criticism, to which netizens responded with “who are you to touch the students in the first place?”
It appears that Oraya Boonto’s TikTok account is now gone from the social media platform.
