Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha’s letter asking assistance from Thailand’s top 20 billionaires on the coronavirus outbreak was revealed on Tuesday.
Here is a translation of the letter below:
The Kingdom of Thailand is currently facing the coronavirus pandemic. It is a serious crisis to the country and the world, hurting and destroying lives, society, and the economy all at the same time in an unprecedented manner. This is a time where Thais and Thailand need cooperation more than ever from all fronts, especially the groups of people and organizations with knowledge and bravery. This is why I am communicating to all of you, as senior and respected members of society.
I am grateful for all the help Thais have received from many of you thus far. But I would like to ask if you could do more in utilizing your abilities and talents in helping and healing the people of Thailand, who are suffering very badly, in a quicker, more efficient manner.
I therefore ask you to write documents proposing the additional things you are ready to do to help your brothers and sisters of Thailand. I do not wish to accept donations. But I urge you to initiate projects that would go out to help Thais in all groups and sectors throughout the region. Whether this could be alleviating the suffering of Thais by any means, or by any other means whatsoever, please let it be of concrete help.
This also includes any projects you think the government could help with and facilitate as well. Please send these to me within the next week, that would be of great kindness.
