Thailand’s government said on Friday that it had discovered 6 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infected to 2960.
There were no new fatalities with the death toll still at 54.
32 more patients have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of discharged patients to 2,719.
“This is the lowest number in over a month,” said government spokesperson Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin.
Dr Thaweesin warned that there was an increasing number of cars and public transport users in the last few days meaning that people have begun to return to normalcy.
We have to be careful even when going back to work if we want to avoid a second wave of infections, said Dr Thaweesin.
Easing measures
The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced on Thursday that six groups of businesses and public activities will reopen from May 3 onwards.
These establishments will be monitored for 14 days after reopening. If the rate of confirmed cases continues to decrease, the government may ease more lockdown measures.
These six groups include:
- Community, fresh and flea markets
- Street vendors, restaurants and dessert shops outside of department stores
- Supermarkets, small retail stores and sitting areas at local stores
- Activities at parks, such as walking and Tai Chi. Outdoor exercises and individual sports are permitted, such as tennis, badminton, shooting range, bicycle tracks, training fields, and golf courses. But team sports are still prohibited.
- Hairdressers and barbers for cutting, cleaning, and drying only.
- Pet grooming places
