Red shirt protesters will mark the ten year anniversary of the May 19 crackdown with a merit-making ceremony at Wat Nuan Chan in Bangkok on Tuesday.
The red shirt protests in 2010 paralyzed Bangkok for over a month as protesters camped out in downtown Bangkok to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who they accused of conspiring with the army to come into power.
The protest and subsequent clashes between the red shirts and the army left over 90 people, mostly protesters, dead and many more wounded.
Protest leader Jatuporn Prompan said that the ceremony would take place on Tuesday at 7 am but told Thai Enquirer that he expects the commemorations to be muted because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
