Cabinet meeting – Travel
Thailand’s government said on Tuesday that it would be passing numerous measures in the coming months to promote domestic tourism to offset the lack of foreign arrivals.
The cabinet subsequently approved a budget of 2.2 billion baht to promote “Rao Tiew Duay Gun”, a new domestic tourism project and merger of the previous Tiew Pun Sook and Rao Tiew Duay Gun campaigns.
Other major approvals for domestic tourism:
- BTS and toll fees will stay the same until 31 December 2020 to help with domestic tourism in accordance with the government and Ministry of Transport’s objectives.
- Government will not charge toll fees for highway number 7 and 9, on the outskirts of Bangkok, for those driving out of the city for the four-day holiday from 3 – 8 July.
- The government will now only financially support air travel, citing that they cannot set up a platform to support the data of other new services on time, with a budget of 2,000 baht for 2 million tickets.
- Krungthai bank will create a platform for hotels, homestays, and restaurants to register under the Rao Tiew Duay Gun project effective 1 July. These establishments will first need to be registered and licensed lawfully to qualify for the registration.
- Citizens can register through the website www.raotiewduaygun.com or application “Pao Tung” (เป๋าตังค์) from 15 July. Citizens will first need to fill out the registration form on the Krungthai bank application before registering through the website and Pao Tung application.
