Migrant workers and foreigners with the Thailand Elite Card will now be allowed to enter Thailand, the government said on Friday.
Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesperson of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said the CCSA will be admitting more groups of foreigners into the country, effective immediately.
Currently, the CCSA is allowing the following to enter Thailand:
- Diplomats via state or alternate sate quarantine (SQ and ASQ)
- About 120,000 migrant workers from three neighboring countries via organizational quarantine (OQ)
- Around 7,000 foreigners with the “Thailand Elite Card”
Other groups that are under consideration include:
- Foreign exhibitors via ASQ
- Foreign production crews via ASQ
- Medical tourists
Since May, the country has gradually been easing its nationwide lockdown measures, which involves reopening businesses, public activities and domestic tourism.
However, the entry ban is still in effect as the State of Emergency was extended until the end of August.
The country is also mulling over travel bubbles with various countries.
However, all talks have been put on hold following the Bangkok and Rayong scandals and the resurgence of coronavirus cases in many of the countries that Thailand is negotiating with.
Somsak Roongsita, the secretary-general of the National Security Council, said earlier in July that tourists will not be allowed to enter Thailand this month.
He also said that the travel bubble negotiations will not be finalized until mid-August.
