“Hockey Dechathorn”, a rapper from the famous anti-military government band Rap Against Dictatorship and behind the famous song ประเทศกูมี, has been arrested for joining and performing at the recent anti-government rallies.
The Human Rights Attorney Center reported that at 8.20 am on Thursday, Dechathorn Bamrungmuang or better known by his stage name Hockhacker has been detained and charged with joining anti-government protests.
Hockey Dechathorn is currently being investigated at the Samut Prakarn police station before he will be taken to the Samranrat police station.
Hockey was not the only high profile participant targeted by police in recent days. Sirin “Fleur” Muncharoen, a student activist, and only a participant in Sunday’s protest has also received an arrest summons from Thai police.
“I am quite surprised that I am being accused of the same thing as the protest organizers because I was not an organizer nor a speaker on the 18th, but just only as a protester,” Sirin told Thai Enquirer.
Activist and rights groups worry that this could be a new trend as an increasingly threatened state lash out on people peacefully exercising their right to protest. (Read more here)
