The former President of the Constitutional Court, Nurak Mapraneet was appointed to the Privy Council, according to a Royal Gazette proclamation published on Monday.
Nurak Mapraneet served as president of the court for 13 years before his appointment to the Privy Council.
He was named president of the Constitutional Court in 2007 after a coup in September 2006 ousted the Thaksin government. He was also a part of the constitution drafting committee in 2007.
In a Twitter post, Piyabutr Saengkanokul, former deputy leader of the dissolved Future Forward Party, said that “[Nurak Mapraneet] is one of the seven judiciaries that voted to dissolve the Future Forward party, and is one of six that voted to ban the executive members from politics indefinitely, when others voted for a ten-year ban.”
During his tenure as president, Nurak was responsible for dissolving six political parties, including the Future Forward Party in February, the Thai Rak Thai party and the Thai Raksachat Party.
He also voted to remove two prime ministers (Samak Sonntorawej and Yingluck Shinawatra), raised the case to dismiss the Democrat Party and nullified the snap election in 2014, according to Piyabutr’s Facebook post.
